FOR the first time since being assembled by national team coach Chot Reyes last January, the newest version of Smart Gilas Pilipinas is finally set to have its first gathering.
The Gilas Pilipinas training pool is set to have a three-day training camp next week to gauge the strengths and assets of the team in an initial evaluation.
In an out-of-town setting, the training pool will assemble from March 14 to 16 for them to get accustomed to each other and with the coaching staff as well.
The Samahang Basketball ng Pilipinas planned this initial get together of the National team hopefuls since the 2017 Philippine Basketball Association Philippine Cup already concluded last Sunday.
While the National pool is composed of a lot of new and young blood, familiar names such as three-time PBA MVP June Mar Fajardo, Japeth Aguilar, Terrence Romeo, Calvin Abueva and Jayson Castro will still be at the forefront of the team’s nucleus.
Other members of the training pool are Troy Rosario, LA Revilla, Norbert Torres, Bradwyn Guinto, Paul Lee, Raymund Almazan, Mac Belo, Mike Tolomia, Kevin Ferrer, Matthew Wright, Roger Pogoy, Arnold Van Opstal, Fonso Gotladera and Russel Escoto.
