Former police official Wenceslao “Wally” Sombero has returned from Vancouver, Canada.
Sombero arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 2 on boad Philippine Airlines (PAL) flight PR 119 at 8:51 am on Tuesday.
He was fetched by personnel from the Senate sergeant-at-arms and operatives from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Anti-Organized Crime unit.
Sombero said, he does not need to be under the protective custody of the NBI since Senate Blue Ribbon Committee Chairman Richard Gordon has guaranteed his safety.
Sombero added, he will face the Senate hearing on Thursday on the the alleged P 50-million bribery-extortion being linked to former Bureau of Immigration (BI) Deputy Commissioners Al Argosino and Michael Robles.
Sombero has also cleared Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre of any role in the controversy.
“I have no knowledge that Secretary Aguirre is involved in this scandal,” he said.
Sombero left the country on January 17, 2017 to conduct seminars, meetings and seek medical treatment abroad.
The former cop had reportedly facilitated the bribery with BI executives, in exchange for the release of online gambling tycoon Jack Lam’s over 1,000 Chinese workers, who were earlier arrested for working illegally at Lam’s Fontana Casino and Leisure Park in Clark, Pampanga.
