Members of President Duterte’s political party in the House of Representatives, the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Laban ng Bayan (PDP-Laban), are holding a caucus on Wednesday morning.
This comes after House Speaker and PDP-Laban Secretary General Pantaleon Alvarez warned, party members who won’t support the revival of death penalty will be stripped of their committee chairmanships and deputy committee chairmanships in the chamber.
Alvarez said, PDP-Laban currently leads a ‘super majority’ coalition in the 17th Congress of the House of Representatives, following Duterte’s presidential victory, so there should be no reason why the President’s priority legislative bills should not be passed.
Aside from the revival of the death penalty, the President is also pushing for the switch to federal system of government and the lowering of age of criminal responsibility from 15 years old to 9 years old.
