THE rehabilitation of the Angat Dam in Norzagaray, Bulacan is on track, according to Angat Hydropower Corp. dam operations engineer Russel Rigor.
“The rehab will be completed by February 2018,” he said in a press briefing at the Angat Dam held on Tuesday and noted the $1-billion repair will provide stability for the dam for another 50 years. The dam was commissioned in 1968.
National Power Corp. president and chief executive officer Gladys Cruz-Sta.Rita, for her part, said the rehabilitation will provide a level of comfort as it complies with the international standards for dams.
Rigor added the power plant operation, which has a capability to produce 216 megawatts, will remain unaffected. Poyry Energy Ltd. was tapped to conduct the study for the repair of the facility in 2014.
Angat Hydropower Corp. is a joint venture of Korea Water Resources Corp. and San Miguel Corp.
Napocor owns the dam and preserves its watershed, while Angat Hydropower Corp. owns and operates the power plant.
