Jennylyn Mercado confirms that her next big soap for GMA, the remake of the hit Koreanovela titled My Love from the Star is finally pushing through.
“Yes it is,” she avers. “We will start taping this week. I know that many are already curious or has become impatient as to when the show will officially commence. Well, here it is. I’m really excited to work on this grand project!”
Fans are asking who is her leading man in the program since Alden Richards has been pulled out of it.
“I cannot disclose his identity at this point in time. All I can say is he’s a newbie, a model and a moreno. He really auditioned for the part and did some line reading with me. It will be a fresh screen combination so I hope the viewers will support it.”
Chemistry is an important factor for a screen pair to succeed. Isn’t she afraid since she will be paired with a newbie in the program?
“Oh, no! We will undergo workshops anyway. I’m sure our chemistry will surface eventually.”
My Love from the Star is a huge ratings success. It tells the story of a famous actress who falls in love with an alien. Jen will play the character of Steffi Cheon in the story which was originally done by popular Korean star Kim Soo-hyun. What are her preparations for the role?
“Actually, I watched the original version to study my character. I know that she’s well-loved by the viewers, so I don’t have plans of deviating much from Ms. Kim Soo-hyun’s portrayal. I want my Steffi to be very, very close to hers.”
This early, the talented Kapuso actress knows that her portrayal will be compared to the original female lead of My Love from the Star.
“I guess it’s inevitable, right? Well, I promise to do my best, that’s for sure. I just hope that feedbacks would still be positive and encouraging,” says Jen.
Since the Christmas season is fast approaching, some quarters are wondering if she will have an entry in this year’s MMFF where in the past two years, she clinched the Best Actress trophy for the movies English Only, Please and Walang Forever, respectively.
“I’m afraid that I will skip this year’s edition of the MMFF. I had offers but the taping of my new soap was delayed from its original date. That time, I thought it wouldn’t be wise to start with the soap and then shoot a movie. I didn’t want to look haggard!”
Speaking of films, it was reported that she would do a project with Coco Martin after John Lloyd Cruz.
“Yes, supposedly. It just didn’t push through.”
Many of her followers ask why until now, she hasn’t starred in a silver screen project opposite rumoured boyfriend Dennis Trillo.
“There’s no offer! Ha-ha-ha! We’ve done hit soaps together, but movies, no. Actually, it’s a welcome idea. For one, it would really be an acting aria for the two of us since we both know each other’s range. I’ll have no difficulty whatsoever,” ends Jennnylyn.

Kim Chiu admits that she hesitated at first when her new soap opera titled Ikaw Lang ang Iibigin was offered to her since it will reunite her with former flame Gerald Anderson.
“Of course, I’m just human. There was awkwardness on my part. But Mr. M (Johnny Manahan) pointed out to me that I should treat it as a challenge. For one, I’m no longer a teenager. Gone are my cutie-pie days. I’m an actress so I should be professional,” she avers.
The popular Kapamilya star is obviously matured enough to handle this phase in her career.
“It’s been seven years since Gerald and I worked together. So many things happened in our lives in that span of time. I think we have something fresh to offer the viewers with our latest program!”
Asked what she missed the most about her former love team and steady, Kim says:
“I don’t want to call or tag it as miss but looking forward. Yes, that’s a better term. Both of us have matured and grown wiser already in the passing of times so I’m looking forward to it…”
