Trans-Aire Holdings Development Corp., a unit of San Miguel Corp., said Tuesday it teamed up with Smart Communications Inc. for free high-speed Wi-fi access at Boracay International Airport in Caticlan, Malay, Aklan.
“Reliable and fast Internet connection will go a long way in enhancing passenger experience here at Boracay Airport. Toward this end, transforming this airport into a modern, world-class-facility, is something that we in San Miguel have been working hard to achieve these past couple of years,” SMC president and chief operating officer Ramon Ang said.
The installation of the facility is a part of the first phase of a P1-billion nationwide rollout of Smart Wi-fi aimed at addressing demand for more hotspots following increasing reliance on smartphones and digital devices to communicate, go online and access information.
Smart will also deploy carrier-grade Wi-Fi in other major transport hubs such as airports, seaports, and mass transport systems MRT and LRT in Metro Manila.
“The internet has become an integral part of people’s lives. Almost everything we do on a daily basis is linked to the Internet. With a backhaul of up to 1 gigabit per second, one can easily post those beautiful Boracay photos, and plan for that next getaway while waiting at the airport. With
Smart Wifi, we give you a world-class digital experience,” said Kat Luna-Abelarde, first vice president and wireless consumer operations head at Smart.
