New coal station rising

The Energy Regulatory Commission granted a provisional certificate of compliance to Palm Concepcion Power Corp. for the 135-megawatt coal-fired power plant in Iloilo province.

Palm Concepcion, a joint venture of Palm Thermal Consolidated Holdings Corp., a subsidiary of A Brown Company Inc. and Jin Navitas Resource, Inc., owns the 2-by-135-MW circulating fluidized bed combustion coal-fired power plant in Barangay Nipa, Concepcion, Iloilo.

“PCPC was granted the provisional COC after careful determination by ERC of the company’s compliance with the financial, technical, and environmental requirements,” Palm Concepcion senior vice president Winifredo Pangilinan said in a statement.

The provisional certificate will be eventually replaced by a final certificate as advised by ERC.

Construction of the power plant was already 99.5-percent completed as of end July while commissioning was expected to be completed by first week of August.

The power plant will supply electricity to the Visayas Grid.
